Google's first Android 4.0 phone may be Samsung's Nexus Prime

Google may be sticking with Nexus S manufacturer Samsung for its first Android 4.0 phone, potentially called the Nexus Prime, according to the mobile site Boy Genius Report.

BGR has dug up new info saying that the Nexus Prime’s screen will be branded “Super AMOLED HD,” which sounds like a follow-up to Samsung’s current Super AMOLED screen technology. That leads BGR to believe Samsung will be building the phone.

As we previously reported, Google’s next Nexus phone is rumored to be a 4G LTE powerhouse. The phone’s display is said to run at a 720p (1280 by 768) resolution, which means that it will likely sport a large screen (around 4.3-inches) and will be extremely sharp like Apple’s Retina Display on the iPhone 4. The Nexus Prime, like the Nexus S and Nexus One before it, will be Google’s flagship device for its newest version of Android, code-named Ice Cream Sandwich.

BGR also learned that Google may be breaking with tradition for the release of Android 4.0 later this year. The company may also be working with manufacturers to launch other Android 4.0 smartphones and tablets around the time of the Nexus Prime’s launch. So unlike the Nexus S, which for the longest time was the only phone running Android 2.3, Google may have several updated devices to choose from come this holiday season.
