While there’s still one day to go till Apple’s much-anticipated iPad officially hits stores, a wave of device specific applications have begun to appear in the App Store. Shazam, a music discovery service, today announced that it’s Shazam app for iPad is now available on the App Store.
Shazam was one of the inaugural applications to hit the original App Store nearly two years ago and has seen more than 15 million downloads, according to the company’s announcement. Once launched, the app uses audio recognition to determine the title and artist, but also lets users tag and save music as well as the option to buy the song. A handy tool when you need to know what it is you’re listening to and don’t know the title or artist.
The Shazam app for iPad includes some additional features from the original app. Features include being able to browse a Shazam chart, a list of tagged songs, and add them to your own list. Users will also have more in-depth information, such as artist biographies, lyrics, discographies, at their finger-tips. There will also be a recommendation feature on songs that the user may be interested in tagging for their own list.
The app for iPad could be compared to Shazam Encore for the iPhone, a premium app that includes the same features and costs $4.99 to download. Though with the iPad’s unique features set, it’s probably safe to say the visual experience will be different.

While the iPad app may make Shazam a useful application for managing music. I believe the company’s audio recognition is still it’s most useful feature.
