You might not want to shoot your kid’s soccer game in 4K with your new iPhone 6s. Or even just the first half.

Apple’s own estimate shows that if you buy the lower-end 16GB model of the iPhone 6s ($199 with a 2-year contract), the storage space in the device can store a maximum of 40 minutes of 4K video.

That’s assuming your 16 gigs is free of other video, photos, apps, music, or other data. And you don’t usually get the full storage capacity to store content — some of it is reserved for formatting and OS data.

Some observers before the launch of the iPhone 6s had wondered if offering a 16GB phone as the bottom of the line is even reasonable in the age of high def.

With the new 12-megapixel camera on the new phones, still image sizes will be larger on the new phones and will make a larger claim on the storage space.

Apple announced its next generation of iPhones, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, at a large press event in San Francisco Wednesday.

From the outside at least, the new phones look identical to their predecessors, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, with the form factor and screen sizes (4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively) remaining the same.
