Snapchat is now crowdsourcing its Geofilters feature.

After launching location-based filters in July, Snapchat today announced Community Geofilters, a new feature that lets you create your own filter for any given location.

Geofilters are designed for a given locale. With Community Geofilters, users can choose the area they want their filter to be available in and then upload the image asset to Snapchat’s site.

Here’s Snapchat’s full explanation of how to make a Geofilter:

“Geofilters are special overlays for Snaps that can only be accessed in certain locations. Artists and designers are encouraged to use this tool to bring their one-of-a-kind style to the Snapchat community. Simply choose the geographic area you want your filter to be available in and upload an image asset. All images must be original artwork and have to be approved by the Snapchat team.”

Snapchat’s new user-generated filters arrive just ahead of the holidays, when many people expect to be traveling. You can check out the new Community Filter site here.
