Darkness comes to Nexon with a new acquisition.

South Korean mobile company Nexon will acquire Boolean Games, the developer of the popular Dark Avenger mobile role-playing games, a series which has seen over 30 million downloads worldwide since launch. This move will allow Nexon to use the popular hack-and-slash franchise to strengthen its free-to-play gaming business in the West, giving the company a greater reach into a mobile games market that could hit $30 billion this year (according to market research firm Newzoo).

This agreement will have Nexon acquiring all of the South Korea-based Boolean Games’ outstanding shares. Transaction details have not been disclosed.

“Boolean Games is an outstanding mobile game studio in Korea, with a successful track record of developing global hit titles” said Jiwon Park, the CEO of Nexon Korea. “From this partnership, we can bolster our global mobile pipeline with more top-quality titles. We are excited about working with the talented team at Boolean games, combining their proven development capabilities with Nexon’s F2P know-how and global distribution platform.”

The sequel to Dark Avenger, Darkness Reborn, has hit over 10 million downloads worldwide since its November launch. Its current publisher, Gamevil, will continue handling that game. Nexon says it will cooperate with Gamevil in growing both companies’ mobile businesses.
