Music streaming company Spotify has just announced its latest acquisition: CrowdAlbum, a startup that monitors and collects social posts around events like concerts.

The deal, according to Spotify, will send CrowdAlbum’s team — including founder and ex-Googler Tracy Chan — to work on products specifically for musicians at Spotify. Spotify says the acquisition will help “artists find and engage their audiences on and off Spotify, especially around the ever important business of touring.”

Reached for comment, Spotify declined to share how much it paid for CrowdAlbum, nor would it share if it plans to shut the service down. As far as integrating CrowdAlbum’s tech into Spotify goes, Spotify offered the following (vague) statement.

We will have more to share once we’re ready to release features that leverage the strengths of both products. Suffice to say that having an understanding of an artist’s ticket purchasing superfan audience on social media is a great compliment to Spotify’s unparalleled insight into fandom information based on streaming behavior. Together we can give an artist an ever clearer picture of their audience and offer more ways to connect with them.
