Spotify just launched a smart playlist that tracks your friends’ favorite songs

Today Spotify debuted “Top Tracks in Your Network,” a top charts-inspired playlist designed to show you the songs your friends listen to most.

Born out of a company hackathon, Spotify tells us that its new playlist was created to offer users a more passive way to get song recommendations from the people they trust. “The more popular a song is with your friends,” Spotify tells us, “the higher it is up the chart.”

Complementing this new feature, Spotify says it will also now show you if certain songs are popular amongst your friends on Artist and Album pages.
