Swedish music streaming company Spotify launched in Canada today, three years after the company debuted in the U.S.

Spotify says it is “now available in 58 markets” in total, with over “40 million active users and over 10 million paying subscribers.” These user-base stats, however, aren’t fresh; they were announced back in May.

With this launch, Spotify claims to have “one of the most extensive Canadian music catalogs available, including a comprehensive Quebecois library.”

Spotify sent us the following statement:

The Canadian Spotify has all the functionality and access that Americans experience. The library has the most extensive Canadian music catalog available including a comprehensive Quebecois offering — we built this with local tastes in mind. Canadians will have access to over 20 million songs on whatever platform of their choice.

Spotify announced a similar 20-million-song milestone in the U.S. in 2012.

A personal familiar with the matter tells VentureBeat that Spotify’s music catalogs “vary somewhat” between markets.
