Square Enix and DeNA announce mobile RPG Final Fantasy: Record Keeper

All the Final Fantasy games mixed into one comes to mobile.

Famed role-playing game developer Square Enix and mobile free-to-play game maker DeNA partner to bring Final Fantasy: Record Keeper to iOS and Android platforms this spring. It was originally released in Japan last summer and has since seen over 5 million downloads there. Bringing this free-to-play title (with pay elements) stateside provides Square Enix and DeNA wider reach on the massive player base that took the popular role-playing game series to over 110 million units shipped worldwide.

Record Keeper combines the worlds and characters of all of the thirteen numbered Final Fantasy games into a single mobile title, mixing up fan-favorite moments and heroes into a single experience. Elements from all of the Final Fantasy games are used to tell a brand new story where players will battle enemies using the series’ classic Active Time Battle battle system. Access to characters across the entire franchise allows players to create their own dream team for these battles.

As it’s still in development, a pre-registration site will allow followers to receive status updates as well as access special unlocks in the final game.

Western Final Fantasy fans have looked to this nostalgia-inducing title longingly since its Japanese release last year. We’ll have to wait and see if the fan service is strong enough to get its hooks in here.
