Sysdig, a startup with cloud-based software for monitoring the performance of Linux containers for storing up application code, announced today a $10.7 million funding round.
Sysdig provides a slick interface on top of the Sysdig open-source monitoring software, as well as features that make it easy for less technical people to understand what’s happening in containers and other application infrastructure.
The rush to monitor containers is not surprising. Startup Docker has, over the past two years, popularized containerization as a lightweight alternative to virtual machine technology, for running multiple applications on a single physical server. As more developers have embraced containers, startups have come out with tools for improving container storage, security, and management. That’s where Sysdig fits in to all this.
Sysdig founder and chief executive Loris Degioanni previously was a cofounder of CACE Technologies, which built open-source network monitoring software and got acquired by Riverbed. He stayed with Riverbed for eight years.
The new funding for Sysdig comes after a few application performance management software companies, including AppDynamics and New Relic, announced the ability to monitor Linux containers.
Sysdig started in 2013 with offices in San Francisco and Davis, Calif. To date the startup has raised a total of $13 million. Accel Partners and Bain Capital Ventures led the new round in Sysdig.
Sysdig’s cloud service is now available after a beta with more than 1,000 users, resulting in 30 paying customers, a spokeswoman told VentureBeat in an email.
