Tekken Tag 2 wants you to be a better fighting game player

Tekken Tag 2 wants you to be a better fighting game player

Tekken Tag 2 wants to make you better at fighting by turning its tutorial into a mini-game.

Learning to play a fighting game isn’t always easy. Many fighters have very complex button combinations that might be easier when using a fighting stick as compared to a controller, or vise versa. Because controls are so diverse, it’s possible to think you’re good at a game like Tekken and never realize your strategies are less than ideal.

The developers behind Tekken Tag 2 want players to re-learn and master the game’s controls to make everyone a better Tekken fighter. The trick to this is revising Tekken Tag’s training mode.

In Tekken Tag 2 introduces the Fight Lab, a training mode where players customize robots known as Combots. Training and customizing your robot teaches you the basic mechanics in Tekken, as well as giving you a firm basis for special moves and combat tactics. If you’ve never been able to move from a low attack to a high attack without frantically mashing buttons, the Fight Lab should help you through the process.

Fight Lab is another game mode, not just a tutorial. You unlock a little story as you train your Combot, and upgrading its moves can help players learn a variety of characters without really focusing on training.

Skipping the tutorial in fighting titles is often very easy, which is why so many players don’t have a firm grasp of the controls. Turning training into a while new game experience is a sneaky but beneficial way to guide gamers through mastering combat before launching into the main modes.

Tekken Tag 2 also features new battle features. Besides the traditional 2-on-2 and 1-on-1 fighting modes, Tag 2 now lets players face off 1-on-2 for an additional challenge. Like Street Fighter X Tekken, having multiple fighters doesn’t necessarily give you the advantage. Losing with one character will cost you the match, so the trick is mastering when to switch before it’s too late.

Tag 2 also features a roster of over 50 playable characters that now interact with their environments. If a stage is dirty or wet, the affects will show on the character’s clothes in real-time.
