Chinese digital giant Tencent reported today that revenue in its first quarter of 2015 grew 22 percent and profits were up 7 percent compared to the same period a year ago.
Tencent operates messaging services QQ and WeChat, as well as offering a broad range of video games.
The company said it had revenue of 22.4 billion yuan ($3.64 billion USD), up from 18.4 billion yuan from last year. Profits rose to 6.930 billion yuan ($1.128 billion), up from 6.46 billion yuan a year ago.
The profits beat estimates of eight analysts polled by Bloomberg.

The company said the WeChat messaging service now has 549 million monthly active users. That compares to the 800 million recently announced by Facebook’s WhatsApp.
