Tesla Motors is trying out a new way of making its car-charging stations more ubiquitous: It’s outfitting certain Airbnb homes with Tesla electric car charging stations free of charge.
The two companies hope to do this for Airbnb homes across the country and around the world, but they’re starting with the California coast.
“Together, we’re building a world with no limits to how far you can travel and how you get there,” said a statement at the initiative’s website. “From remote deserts to lush forests, we’re unlocking highways, backroads, adventures and unique homes.”
The website also includes a form that current Airbnb homeowners can use to apply for a Tesla charger. Tesla covers the cost of the charger, but the homeowner has to cover the installation costs.
Another link at the site shows Tesla owners a selection of homes around California that already have the charging stations.
