Online backup storage provider IDrive unveiled a two-terabyte drive that can back up and encrypt data over a Wi-Fi connection. That’s enough storage to hold about 600 hours of good-quality video. Not bad for $150.
IDrive WiFi enables fast local backup of computers and mobile devices, and it can do so over a secure local connection. The Los Angeles-based company revealed the latest gadget in its line of storage devices at the 2015 International CES, the giant tech trade show in Las Vegas this week.
“IDrive WiFi is a secure fast-lane for backing up and restoring a lot of data between all your devices without bandwidth limitations,” Shane Bingham, IDrive’s business development manager, said in a statement. “We’ve given users a better way to back up with the convenience of WiFi and the security of IDrive.”
It works across platforms, allowing users to back up and restore from a variety of different devices such as PC, Mac, Android, and iOS. You can use it to back up an unlimited number of computers, smartphones, and tablets into one IDrive WiFi device. Of course, if you do that, you’re going to want to make sure that the storage is secure. That’s why the drive uses military grade 256-AES encryption along with an optional private key.

The device has a fast universal serial bus (USB) 3.0 interface along with USB cable and wall charger. Each device comes with a one year subscription to IDrive’s cloud backup solution. The 1 terabyte version plus one year of 1TB IDrive Pro Personal cloud service is $100, while the 2 terabyte version is $150.
To date, IDrive’s services help over 3 million customers back up over 50 petabytes of data. That’s enough for 25,000 billion pages of printed text.
