The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is getting a Game of the Year edition

The Witcher is getting ready for a victory lap.

Developer CD Projekt Red confirmed to Eurogamer today that The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is getting a Game of the Year edition. The fantasy open-world game was one of the biggest hits of 2015, selling six million copies in its first six weeks of availability. It originally released on May 19, 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Game of the Year editions can help a game earn extra sales, especially from people who’ve held out on the original release. After hearing all the buzz for a game, they’ll be more likely to purchase it when they see a version that comes with all of the downloadable content.

“With all the free DLC and updates the game received so far, including significant changes to the game’s interface and mechanics, many gamers have asked us if we’re working on some sort of a Game of the Year Edition,” game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz told Eurogamer. “I’m happy to confirm — yes, plans are in motion to release such an edition. We’ll release more details, including the release date, in the future. In the meantime, I’d like to thank every fan of the game for their support — you’re really amazing!”

CD Projekt Red contacted Eurogamer after the site spotted the Game of the Year version listed in a German ratings board entry. Eurogamer says that according to an undisclosed source, the Game of the Year edition will release on August 26.

Although CD Projekt Red didn’t give details, Game of the Year editions traditionally include all of the DLC released for a game. The Witcher III received two sizable expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Those would likely come with the Game of the Year edition.
