This is the HTC Bolt, in the wild

HTC is poised to release a new mid-range Android 7.0 Nougat-powered smartphone this month, the HTC Bolt. Although it closely resembles the flagship HTC 10 in appearance, it’s actually a larger device, with a 5.5-inch FHD display.

Known internally at HTC as Acadia, according to someone who has used one, the Sense-skinned handset — with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage plus microSD — is perhaps most noteworthy for something it doesn’t include: a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Once a core feature of smartphones, headphone jacks are slowly starting to disappear, with both Motorola and Apple omitting them from their 2016 flagships.

Interestingly, while Bolt does offer HTC’s BoomSound audio-enhancing tech, it’s only available when listening with headphones; the handset itself contains but a single, bottom-firing speaker. It also has a fingerprint scanner nestled between capacitive buttons on the face, along with a USB type-C port.

Cameras include an 18-megapixel primary shooter with f/2.0 lens and 4K video capture, along with an eight-megapixel front-facing selfie cam.

Bolt is expected to be available globally, including on Sprint in the United States.
