This year’s Super Bowl ad landscape featured babies in space, a crazy goat, and another gross GoDaddy commercial. But a touching story about a Budweiser Clydesdale and the man who raised it beat all other ads, according to USA Today’s Ad Meter.
USA Today’s Ad Meter has been in use for 25 years to measure Super Bowl ad sentiment and measured it across 7,619 preregistered panelists this year. Panelists had to log in before the Super Bowl and give every ad a 1-10 measure. The scores were then averaged and ranked.
While USA Today’s Ad Meter is more storied, other firms tried to pick the most popular ads based on social media discussions about those commercials. Networked Insights, for example, used 24 million conversations on Twitter, Facebook, and other networks to determine that GoDaddy’s “Perfect Match” and Taco Bell’s “Viva Young” ads were the most talked about on the social web. Notably, GoDaddy’s ad was the most talked about, but it had more negative sentiment than positive.

Bonus: Oreo’s social media ad during the blackout
On a final note, the brand that scored the most points for a social advertisement was Oreo. The cookie from Nabisco used the Super Bowl’s strange electricity blackout as an opportunity to run a clever ad on Twitter and Facebook. As of this morning, Oreo’s blackout ad has been retweeted more than 14,800 times and reshared on Facebook 6,820 times.
