Toshiba announced new wireless data transfer and storage backup devices today that help you get the most out of your mobile gear and PCs.
The Japanese electronics company made the announcements at the 2015 International CES, the big tech trade show in Las Vegas this week. The portable hard drives, backup drives, wireless data transfer adapters, and a wireless flash memory card work well with Toshiba laptops and tablets, but you can use them with any manufacturer’s computers.
The Toshiba FlashAir III Wireless SD Card shares images, videos, and files wirelessly. The card comes with 16GB or 32GB capacities, and it has a photo-sharing and web interface for managing your files on a PC, said Tong Choi, the product manager for digital products at Toshiba, in an interview with VentureBeat. You can cast from a tablet to a TV, since the app is Chromecast-ready. It has an app that works on either iOS and Android. And it supports up to seven users.
Toshiba is unveiling its TransferJet adapter, which offers a fast wireless data transfer of 560 megabits per second between two points, such as between a mobile device and a PC. The transfer rates are 10 times faster than basic Wi-Fi, 100 times faster than Bluetooth, and 1,000 times faster than near-field communications.

“We create options so you can store your data on something else besides your tablet,” Choi said. “It’s a good solution when you have a lot of stuff to transfer.”
The adapter can transfer a 65MB movie in less than 5 seconds from a PC to a tablet.
The devices include the Canvio Connect II Portable hard disk drives, with modern designs and high-gloss finishes. They come in capacities of 500 GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 3TB. And these are available in black, blue, red, white, and new gold colors. You can schedule a backup for your local files or folders, and also back up data to a 10 GB cloud service. They offer full system backup and recovery, and remote access via PogoPlug. You can stream content to mobile devices, and access and share files over the Internet. They work with PCs or Macs.
Toshiba is also announcing its Canvio Basics portable add-on hard drives with new capacities up to 3TB. It is available in white, silver, or black colors.
