Truly Wireless, a startup striving to put an end to traditional business phone systems, today launched out of beta with $1.4 million in funding led by Index Ventures, Greylock Partners, and Boldstart Ventures.
Truly aims to shake up the way traditional business lines work, but instead of pushing VOIP (voice over IP), the company has developed a system that enables employees to use their cell phones.
“It has the sophistication of VOIP systems, but it’s delivered with the simplicity and the reliability of the cell phone connection we use every day,” Truly chief Erol Toker told us.

The reason companies invest in voice systems is because they need workflows. The problem is when you are doing basic call forwarding, the carrier networks are very unsophisticated. A large number of people who switch over to Truly are Google Voice users.
We make it look like we are one big network. T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint — they’re almost a unified network. We’re like an aggregation layer, really.
San Francisco-based Truly has operated in beta since January, picking up startup clients like Boxbee and DocSend along the way.
