Following earlier rumors, Twitter today formally announced the rollout of Web notifications on Twitter.com.
Twitter shares that all users will soon be able to reply to tweets within notifications in a way similar to OS X’s Twitter notifications. In case you’re uninterested in notifications, you can turn them off via the settings page.

This release follows Twitter’s move to roll out photocentric profiles on the Web. Twitter continues to evolve rapidly as it searches for monetization, and today’s announcement is just one step in that process.
