Twitter officially taps Bing to translate your tweets

Twitter has been experimenting with this, but starting today, Bing’s translation engine will enable users to view tweets in multiple languages, Twitter announced.

Twitter started testing this in 2013, folded the project, and is now apparently bringing it back and making the feature official. Users can enable the translations, which will show up under the original tweet when they tap a globe icon, the company said in a blog post.

Twitter warns that while the engine “relies on advanced translation software to provide Tweet translations, the results still vary and often fall below the accuracy and fluency of translations provided by a professional translator.”

This feature is currently available on twitter.com, Twitter for iOS, Twitter for Android, and TweetDeck. Bing’s translation engine works with more than 40 language pairs, the company says.
