Twitter also reiterated its commitment to helping the city by providing organizations with event space, encouraging and facilitating volunteering for its employees, and working to make the Twitter NeighborNest — the learning and training center it’s sponsoring — an important resource for education in the community. The company announced the Twitter NeighborNest in late May. It’s a partnership with Compass Family Services aimed at providing education in technology and other job skills for the homeless. Twitter is investing $3 million in the center, up from the original $1 million it announced.
As an incentive to get Twitter to locate its headquarters in San Francisco, the city allowed Twitter and other companies based in the Mid-Market neighborhood to avoid payroll taxes for six years in exchange for agreeing to contribute to revitalizing the community.
