Twitter makes another acquisition with analytics startup Smallthought Systems

Twitter has been on a shopping spree of late, buying startups left and right as it scales up its workforce to more than 200 employees.

Thursday, it bought Smallthought Systems, a four-person startup responsible for building a project management tool called Dabble DB that Twitter used up until a year ago. They also created Trendly, a tool that helps display trends from Google Analytics data, which Twitter was one of the first testers for.

“As Twitter is the world’s largest Ruby on Rails-based web service, we are impressed with their frequent contributions to the Ruby and Smalltalk development communities,” wrote Kevin Weil, who oversees analytics for Twitter. “Their team has a unique combination of entrepreneurship, creativity, and analytics expertise.”

The Smallthought Systems deal comes on top of several recent acquisitions including Mixer Labs and Atebits, the maker of a popular iPhone Twitter app.
