Twitter has changed the way it displays images on Twitter.com timelines, so that they now appear uncropped. Previously, photos and pictures have been chopped off at the top and bottom — until clicked on — unless they already matched a specific landscape-oriented aspect ratio.
Along with the more revealing previews, multi-image tweets have also gotten a refresh, such that the thumbnail tiles are now displayed in varying sizes within the preview box, which is also larger. Until now, the thumbnails being shown were of a uniform size.
Twitter chalks up the change to the fact that, while Twitter was initially a text-only medium, “rich media has become essential to the experience.” The changes are starting to appear on Twitter.com now, but the company didn’t share when its apps may get a similar update.
