The online payments startup Stripe will be working with Twitter to put a “Buy” button in tweets.
Twitter users will begin to see the new button later this year, a Re/code report says — probably in time for Christmas.

The report cites sources saying that businesses that want to sell products in this way on Twitter should start working with Stripe to set up the back end systems.

Stripe is the only e-commerce enabler being mentioned now, but there’s a chance that Twitter will work with others in the future. Twitter announced in July that it had acquired mobile payment system CardSpring, which also has the infrastructure needed to add payment capability to tweets.
Developers like Stripe because it’s very easy to set up. Stripe’s technology can enable purchases both in the web browser and in the app.
Reports of talks between Stripe and Twitter date back to the beginning of the year, but the partnership deal has now been finalized.
Stripe took a large $80 million funding round back in February, and also announced that it had gone global, with the ability to handle 130 currencies. Previously, merchants could only receive money in U.S. and Canadian dollars, the euro, and the British pound.
