Join us for this live webinar — Mixed Methodologies Pt II: Building successful outcomes — on Thursday, June 11 at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern. Register here for free.
VentureBeat is studying the adoption of Agile / Waterfall development methodologies, and already the preliminary results are telling us a lot of things we already knew. For example, roughly half of respondents are using a hybrid approach that mixes both Agile and Waterfall methodologies, and about equal halves of those using a hybrid approach started out with either a pure Agile or pure Waterfall shop.

About half of our respondents currently using a hybrid approach have been using this mixed approach from the start. More businesses have realized the value of blending the two. Even in the enterprise, frameworks like the Scaled Agile Framework (or SAFe) and Disciplined Agile Delivery (or DAD) are taking real and meaningful steps to accommodate this seemingly commonplace strategy.
We’re bound to uncover more surprises and interesting data points from our survey — the results and conclusions of which will be published here on VentureBeat in a few weeks. In advance of that paper, we’re conducting an info-rich webinar on “Building successful outcomes”, where we’ll get down to the weeds about how to make these two seemingly disparate project management approaches play nicely with each other.
Whereas previous webinars we’ve held focused on the why and the what of Hybrid, we’re now focusing on the how. How can organizations adapt successful approaches that blend the best of both worlds? How can companies looking to adopt this mixed approach avoid the pitfalls of getting it wrong? How does DevOps, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery figure into a hybrid strategy? How does this approach complement or compete with ITSM? In short, we’re going to answer “How can we best implement Hybrid, no matter what our team currently uses, or what our culture looks like?”
Like many companies, you’re probably already sold on the “why”… you’ve probably tried a pure Agile or pure Waterfall approach and quickly learned their individual, unique shortcomings. If you haven’t got a good grasp of Agile practices, you may want to read up a bit on the tools and methodologies and check out our Mixed Methodologies Pt 1 webinar, as we’ll assume everyone understands the “what”. This isn’t about Hybrid justification — we’re going to talk about the nuts and bolts about how to do it right.
We’re going to focus on outcomes, and how those outcomes flowed from the judicious and correct mixing of Agile and Waterfall approaches. The webinar will cover broad ground, careening from the benefits of various implementations (like Kanban, Scrum, sprints, and burn-down charts), to discussing various enabling platforms (like public cloud, and big data technologies), and looking at important trends (like the Internet of Things, microservices, and SaaS products) — not in a vacuum, but in living, breathing implementations at real companies which have had to tune and adjust each piece of the puzzle to make it all fit correctly.
If you’re primed to learn the “how” of Hybrid PM strategies, this is going to be the best hour you spend this month.
After this webinar, you’ll:
- Discover what works when mixing traditional app dev techniques
- Automate Agile principles while deploying new or existing apps
- Learn how cloud and big data can complicate the Agile scenario
- Avoid the pitfalls of bad development strategies
