Uber teams up with Microsoft to launch a Windows Phone app

Now our compatriots with Windows Phones can get in on the fun that is alternative-car service Uber, too.

Uber announced the news of a dedicated Windows Phone app in a blog post today. Until this point, it’s only been available for Windows Phone owners through the Uber website.

That’s good for Uber in its quest to bring the service to more and more people all over the world.

Not that it will immediately lead to lots more business, at least when you look at adoption numbers for Windows Phone. Smartphones running the operating system represented just 3 percent globally, with Android and iOS easily beating the OS out, according to figures published in May.

But at least the Uber app’s reach is vast. It will work in 150 cities and 41 countries, according to the blog post.
