Verizon’s strong business has no signs of slowing down — especially when it comes to its wireless network.

The carrier announced today that it added 941,000 new postpaid wireless customers (subscribers on contract) in the second quarter and that it has reached a total of 94.3 million postpaid connections. Notably, Verizon also said it has surpassed 100.1 million total retail connections — which includes prepaid connections and connected devices like tablets — a 6.3 percent increase over last year.

Verizon now has more than 35 million postpaid wireless accounts — by taking the above wireless connections into account, the company notes there are now 2.7 connections per account on average. That’s a sign that people are taking advantage of Verizon’s Share Everything plans, which let people use several devices with a single pool of data (Verizon says Share Everything plans now make up 36 percent of its postpaid accounts).

During its earnings call today, Verizon reiterated that its first VoLTE (Voice over LTE) handset will launch at the end of the year. The technology, also called “HD Voice” on other carriers, offers a dramatic upgrade in sound quality over traditional cellular calls. The carrier plans to enable VoLTE on its 4G network in the first half of 2014, but it’s working hard to make sure its 4G footprint is equivalent to its current 3G coverage (if you leave the 4G network, you lose the VoLTE call entirely).
