Verizon’s new ‘More Everything’ plans attack T-Mobile with extra data, discounts, and more

Verizon’s latest wireless plans are all about “more.”

Replacing the company’s Share Everything plans, Verizon’s new “More Everything” plans add more wireless data (in some cases), discounts when you subscribe to Verizon’s “Edge” early upgrade program, and unlimited international texting from the U.S.

When it comes to data, Verizon is increasing the bandwidth caps for certain lower-tier plans: The $40 500 megabyte plan now gets you 1GB of data; the 1GB plan doubles to 2GB; and the $60 2GB plan jumps to 3GB. While that’s not as enticing as the fully unlimited data T-Mobile offers for $70 a month, it could be enough to keep some Verizon customers from jumping ship.

As for those discounts, Verizon Edge subscribers will get a $10 discount for data plans up to 8 gigabytes, and a $20 discount for plans 10GB or higher. Edge lets you upgrade your smartphone early, in exchange for paying off your device in monthly installments

Clearly, Verizon is introducing most of these new features in response to T-Mobile’s Uncarrier initiatives. Last year, T-Mobile killed off its standard cellphone contracts in exchange for a handful of clear plans, including the aforementioned $70 unlimited data; it was the first U.S. carrier to introduce an early-upgrade program; and it also announced free international data roaming, including free texts from other countries.

Additionally, Verizon will offer 25GB of cloud storage to More Everything subscribers. For $5 a month, you can also get access to Family Base, a tool for parents to manage their kids’ wireless access.
