Veteran exec Gideon Yu joins gaming gadget maker Razer’s board

Gideon Yu, a veteran executive of high-tech firms and the co-owner of the San Francisco 49ers, has joined the board of gadget maker Razer.

Carlsbad, Calif.-based Razer makes gaming laptops and other cool gadgets for super geeks. It has recruited Yu to bring some deep experience in high-tech and financial executive management to the company, Razer said.

“I’m thrilled that someone with Gideon’s remarkable financial and operational experience and track record across a wide range of iconic tech, media, and entertainment brands is joining Razer,” said Min-Liang Tan, the co-founder and CEO of Razer, in a statement. “We very much look forward to the value Gideon can bring at this exciting stage in our company’s life.”

Yu is the co-owner and former president of the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to the 49ers, he was a general partner at Khosla Ventures, where he led the firm’s investment in Jack Dorsey’s Square and was the founding outside board member. Previously, Yu served as the chief financial officer of both Facebook and YouTube. He also served as the treasurer and senior vice president of finance for Yahoo.

Founded in 2005, Razer is backed by IDG-Accel and Heliconia Capital Management (Heliconia), a subsidiary of Singapore investment company Temasek.
