Vine launches for Windows 10

Twitter today launched its Vine app for Windows 10. The company has released the new app with support for desktops and tablets, but not phones (though the existing Vine for Windows Phone app gets the job done, albeit with fewer features). You can download the new app now from the Windows Store.

Twitter says the Windows 10 app includes many of the features available in Vine’s mobile apps. You can watch clips, check out channels, follow accounts, and check your notifications. Best of all, you can use the app even if you don’t yet have a Vine account.

Vines will play continuously by default, just like when you use the Watch button in any of the mobile apps. If you want to watch a specific Vine on loop, just put your mouse cursor over it or touch the screen.

The Explore function lets you check out channels (like Music, Dance, Comedy, and Sports), trends, and viral Vines. The app also includes features specific to Windows 10, including Live Tiles and a user interface that adapts to your device — this is a universal Windows platform (UWP) app even if Windows 10 Mobile isn’t supported.

You can also pin your favorite Vine channels and accounts to your Start menu. When you pin an account, you’ll see a preview of that user’s latest Vines in the app’s Live Tile.

That’s all for consumption. If you want, you can also create and share a Vine by uploading a video from your PC or tablet. You can manually choose upload, but dragging and dropping will do the trick as well.

We have contacted Twitter regarding if and when this Vine app and all its features will be coming to Windows 10 Mobile. Given that the Twitter app arrived for Windows 10 Mobile in March, we wouldn’t be surprised if Vine followed eventually. We will update you if we hear back.

Update: Twitter declined to share any plans regarding Vine for Windows 10 Mobile. “This app is currently available on tablets and PCs,” a Twitter spokesperson told VentureBeat. “Mobile users can continue to use the existing Vine for Windows Phone app.”
