Warner Bros. launches Extra Slot Stars mobile game with Mario Lopez

Warner Bros. is diving into social casino games. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is announcing Extra Slots Stars, a free-to-play mobile game based on the popular TV show. It will use the voice and likeness of Extra host Mario Lopez.

Social casino games aren’t as red hot as they once were, but the category is still a big market, with $951 million in revenues in the second quarter, up 15.7 percent from a year earlier, according to market analyst firm Eilers & Krejcik Gaming. Warner is late to the party, but it has a Hollywood advantage.

Developed by Open Wager Studios in San Francisco and Hungary, the game is now available on iOS and Android. Warner Bros.’ game division partnered with Extra, the 2016 Emmy winner for outstanding entertainment news program, to create the casino-slots mobile game.

Warner Bros. said Extra Slot Stars features casino-style slots combined with Hollywood glitz and glamor for players looking to unwind and experience the A-list lifestyle. The game brings to life Extra’s lively set, and it also has a real-time Extra news ticker at the bottom of the game screen.

“I am thrilled to be featured in this one-of-a-kind mobile gaming experience combining entertainment news and the excitement of Vegas jackpots,” said Mario Lopez in a statement. “The game allows Extra’s biggest fans to get the feel of the Hollywood lifestyle enjoyed by their favorite celebrities — anytime, any place.”

Each level theme brings players to a new phase in their mobile journey to the top of the A-list, including spa getaways, neon nightlife, luxury vacations, and more. As new levels unlock, players see their achievements come to life, and they can access an array of wardrobe items for their custom Extra Slots Stars avatars. Players are able to share their experience by logging into Facebook to connect with friends and post about their tournament wins, jackpots, and more.
