Elon Musk is about to unveil Tesla’s and SolarCity’s first integrated products: a “solar roof” and Powerwall 2.0.
If this sounds at all confusing to you, you’re not alone. Musk had to clarify in August that he wasn’t talking about regular solar panels: “It’s not a thing on the roof. It is the roof,” he said.
Musk is also expected to show off the next version of Tesla’s home battery system and vehicle charger — Powerwall 2.0 — which will work in tandem with the solar roof.
Update 7:31 p.m. Pacific: Here’s what Elon Musk announced.
You can watch the presentation here or below. It was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Pacific, but it’s now delayed by 15 minutes.
Tesla announced its intention to buy solar energy company SolarCity in June. After a few hurdles, the two companies have back-to-back shareholder meetings planned for November 17 to vote on the deal. Tonight’s unveiling is important for Tesla, as it’s a chance to prove just how well the two companies can work together.
