Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said Wednesday that “the craziest Oculus experience I’ve had recently is playing ping pong in virtual reality.” Facebook famously bought virtual reality startup Oculus VR last year for $2 billion, and since then it’s been pushing hard into the VR space.
“You feel like you’re right there with your friend even though they may be halfway around the world,” Zuckerberg said in a Facebook posting. “And not only can you hit the ball back and forth, but you can turn gravity up and down to simulate completely different worlds — outer space, under water, and so on.”
“In our new Toybox experience, you can pick up objects, build things, and play games. This video shows a few examples of what’s possible. What’s really amazing is sharing these experiences with your friends. We’re getting closer,” he enthused.
Oculus recently acquired Israeli motion-sensing technology company Pebbles Interfaces, and at the end of last month made a slew of announcements, sharing that a $99 Samsung Gear VR headset is slated for Q1 2016. We also showed you a priceless peek at the reactions of people watching virtual reality porn for the first time.
