Mario punches Pikachu. Link slashes Samus. And that’s just the cosplayers fighting over swag in the parking lot of the San Diego Comic-Con! Inside that huge event, Nintendo is having those characters fight in the first ever tournament for Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS — and it’s happening right now.

Nintendo is gathering together Comic-Con attendees to battle it out in a big tourney for the upcoming four-player fighter on its 3D portable. The company previously held an invitational competition for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U at the Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow in June, but this is the first time the 3DS version — a similar-but-different Smash Bros. — is getting its turn in the spotlight. The portable game is due out first on Oct. 3, and the Wii U release will follow later this year.
