You will only have one path through reading this story, but that’s not true for Dishonored 2.

Arkane Studios and Bethesda Game Studios have finally unleashed gameplay of Dishonored 2, which debuts November 11 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Dishonored quickly became a valuable property for Bethesda, as it was the highest-selling original game release in 2012, and it also had a mobile spinoff.

layers can take on the role of either Corvo Attano, the hero of the first Dishonored, or Emily Kaldwin, the princess from the first. They will each have their own feel and point-of-view, and Arkane fully voiced them so players can understand who they are playing as. But Emily and Corvo will both take advantage of a number of mystical abilities to frighten, confuse, and harm their enemies in creative ways. Arkane wants its fans to feel like they have the choice to approach every situation however they want even more so than in the first Dishonored.

Arkane showed off a gameplay demo that demonstrated how players can use Emily’s and Corvo’s distinct power sets to navigate obstacles and opponents. Creativity is rewarded, and the developer built it in a way that’ll make you realize your way — which is likely different from everyone else’s — is the right way for you.

This sequel also takes players to a new southern island that drops the industrial feeling of the original in favor of something that looks more Mediterranean. The developer said it wanted to make something that feels like a painting come to life brimming with “spaces to explore.”

“We compelled ourselves to ask about the history of a street,” Dishonored 2 director Harvey Smith said.

He went on to say that players will see evidence of lost shops and ruined posters under layers of new ones. If you look closely, you’ll learn about the world by walking through these environments. Arkane built a new visual engine — called the Void Engine — that enables it to build spaces covered in shadows that can give way to bright, beautiful openings, like a market.
