With 100M ThinkPads sold, Lenovo unveils its latest commercial laptops at CES

Lenovo has sold more than 100 million ThinkPad laptops in its history. And it hopes to add to that record with a series of new laptops being unveiled at the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas this week.

IBM began selling its first ThinkPads in 1992, and it sold off its PC division to Lenovo in 2004. Lenovo has become the No. 1 PC maker in the world, with a 20 percent market share. It is No. 3 in tablets, No. 3 in servers, and No. 3 in smartphones. The company’s strategy is to create a portfolio of devices that adapt to you. The latest laptops have screens that can be set for different usage patterns, ranging from presentations to entertainment, said Steve Gilbert, director of worldwide product marketing in the commercial group at Lenovo

One of the premier machines Lenovo is showing is the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, a thin-and-light laptop that is 17.7 millimeters thick and weighs less than 2.87 pounds. It has fifth-generation Intel Core i processors. And it comes with a full HD or WQHD screen, solid state drive storage, and more than 10 hours of battery life. It is available with the ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock for a desktop-like experience. Nicknamed Eve, the third generation of the X1 Carbon has refinements in its keyboard and clickpad.

Lenovo also has a new 24-inch monitor for business customers. The ThinkVision X24 is only 7.5 millimeters thick. It has full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and HDMI and DP inputs. It starts at $250.

And Lenovo is introducing a series of products that stack on top of each other and serve as accessories for your laptop. The ThinkPad Stack includes a 2×2 watt Bluetooth speaker with a noise-cancelling microphone. It also has a USB 3.0 hard drive with a terabyte of storage. And it has a hotspot access point for Wi-Fi access. The latter tethers to a smartphone and puts the signal out to multiple laptops. Lastly, the ThinkPad Stack has a power bank for charging various devices via USB. The stack works with any PCs, and the pieces of the stack can be purchased separately.

“They come together as a unique solution that fits together for business,” Gilbert said.

Lastly, Lenovo is introducing the latest versions of its X, T, L, and E series laptops.
