Yahoo sends out invites to unveil a ‘brand new consumer product’ on July 29

Yahoo just sent out press invites for a product unveiling next week. The new consumer product will be announced on Wednesday, July 29.

The last time the company hosted a big press conference it was to reveal a completely redesigned Flickr. That was also the same day it announced its $1.1 billion acquisition of Tumblr, so expectations should be set high.

Chances are the new product will have to do with CEO Marissa Mayer’s MaVeNS category. The acronym stands for Mobile, Video, Native, and Social and it represents key areas Yahoo is concerned with growing. In the first quarter, MaVeNS businesses earned the company $399 million in revenue. That said, Yahoo may be making some changes to its blogging platform Tumblr.

Earlier this year, Yahoo decided to more deeply integrate Tumblr with the rest of the Yahoo team. In a reorganization, Tumblr CEO David Karp started reporting to Simon Khalaf, Yahoo’s senior vice president of publishing products.

For now details are scant. We’ll update you from the event next week.
