It’s official: Amazon is breaking into restaurant delivery with its fast delivery service Prime Now.
Today the company announced that customers in Seattle can order food for delivery from a spate of restaurants, including Cactus, Wild Ginger, Skillet, Marination Station, Re:public, Café Yumm!, Ten Mercer, and Mamnoon, through its Prime Now mobile app. The new service promises to deliver hot meals in under an hour, putting it in competition with apps like GrubHub and Seamless.

It will also only be available in a few select zip codes in Seattle, though the company plans on expanding rapidly in the area.
The announcement comes on the heels of rumors last week that Amazon was getting into the restaurant business. It seems food delivery is just the next step in Amazon’s quest to deliver anything to anyone, and quickly.

Last year the company started rolling out its 1-2 hour local delivery service Prime Now, and it has since expanded the service to several additional cities. Prime Now only landed in Seattle two weeks ago, but the city’s already proving to be a key testing ground for Amazon. Last week, the company launched beer, wine, and liquor delivery through Prime Now in Seattle.
If you’re wondering where Amazon’s new food delivery service may hit next, a Reuters report suggests New York may be next in line.
