YouTube released its app today for Sony’s PlayStation 4. You can download it now directly from the PlayStation store (it’s 69.1MB).
Today’s release is in conjunction with the PS4’s system update 2.0, which adds the capability to upload your gameplay highlights directly from the console to YouTube by clicking the Share button on the DualShock 4 controller. In previous software updates, Sony has automatically added apps to the home space without requiring users to download them first. The PS4’s YouTube app, similar to the version that has been available for the PlayStation 3 since February 2013, requires a download, but most will likely find it worth the hassle.

It has the same design as YouTube’s TV app, which arrived just two months ago with faster and smoother browsing.

The app supports YouTube channels as well as basic functionality such as liking, sharing, and commenting. If you choose to sign into the app, you can also access your subscribed channels, playlists, and favorites.
To find and watch YouTube videos uploaded by your PlayStation Network friends, go to the “What’s New” section on your PlayStation 4. The same goes for the PlayStation app for Android.
While Sony’s newest console has let users upload videos to Facebook and post screenshots on Twitter, a native YouTube app has been a long time coming. Given that the Xbox One has had a YouTube app since November, we’re pretty sure PS4 fans are happy to finally receive their own from the Google-owned company.
