Zynga founder Mark Pincus invests in Austria’s ChatGrape, a Slack competitor

Slack may be gaining huge momentum in the enterprise messaging and collaboration space, but it appears that investors think the game is far from over.

Following news earlier this year that ChatGrape had raised $1.3 million from Betaworks, the company said Zynga cofounder Mark Pincus has now also made an investment of an undisclosed size.

“This is extremely exciting for a number of reasons,” said ChatGrape cofounder Leo Fasbender. “It extends our network, for one. Most importantly, however, it represents a huge amount of knowledge, expertise, and experience that we now have access to. With Betaworks and Mark we now have some strategically valuable international investors, which should be further proof that ChatGrape has some innovative and interesting technology in the making.”

Based in Vienna, ChatGrape uses natural language processing to help companies automate workflow and communications across the company. The company believes that ability can make it a strong competitor to Slack, despite the latter’s huge buzz at the moment.

Through a spokesperson, Pincus declined to comment. However, Pincus has long been an active angel investor, in addition to running Zynga. Since stepping down as Zynga’s CEO, he’s also launched an incubator of sorts called Superlabs.
