Samsung’s Family Hub connected refrigerator features a 21.5-inch HD touchscreen

Samsung has introduced a new Internet-enabled refrigerator at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Dubbed the “Family Hub” fridge, the stainless steel appliance boasts a large 21.5-inch high-definition touchscreen display on one of its doors.

Besides the expected entertainment functions, the screen also provides a host of features to aid in fridge operation: statistics such as the internal temperature and humidity, sensors to detect and automatically order depleted foodstuffs, and cameras that make it possible to peruse the contents without opening the door.

As its name suggests, the fridge is designed to assist families in organizing their activities. Family members can sync their schedules, leave one another messages, and upload photos for sharing.

With an optional dongle, the Android-compatible fridge is also able to control other devices in Samsung’s SmartThings Internet-of-Things (IOT) ecosystem.
