Last November, Square began rolling out its new chip card and contactless payment reader to select merchants. Until now, this $49 device was only available through the company’s website, but today it’s available at Apple.com and the tech giant’s retail stores across the country.

Built to accept the new Europay, MasterCard, and Visa (EMV) credit cards, which contain a chip that offers extra security, Square’s most recent card reader helps bring merchants up to speed on the latest transactional innovations. And beyond taking EMV cards, the device supports Apple Pay, Android Pay, and other near-field communication payment providers.

Square declined to provide the specific number of card readers that have been sold since its release, but did say that “hundreds of thousands of local businesses across the country are already using” Square’s newest reader.

This is the first physical retailer where merchants will be able to find Square’s new reader.
