There are some things in life that just are not worth it. When I was in high school, I dated a girl that is a prime example. If I were to be as sexist enough to give her a numbered rating, I’d say that she was a solid 9, while I barely passed as a 7 (as far as you know, I’m a 10 now that I’m all manly and crap)… but I’m not sexist enough to do such a thing.

But essentially, in my vanity filled mind, it was good situation for me. Mmm … it was good. At least for a while.

Mass Effect CoverTurns out, what I got out of the deal wasn’t worth what I was giving (or what was being taken from me), so I said “up your’s, hot girl”, and she said “if you play your cards right,” but by then I had already turned around, undressing other would-be girlfriends with my eyes.

Looking back at hot girl, I can appreciate the good memories. But somehow, needing to quell her constant jealousy (not the fun, playful kind) taints my perception of a relatively sweet girl. Also the smoker’s breath…

What does all this have to do with anything? I’m two achievements away from being 1050/1050 in Mass Effect. It’s taken me a year to do this, and it’s work, dammit.

Oh my God, it’s work. All I need to do is reach level 60 and finish the game (Insanity mode). If you’re wondering why I didnt just do those during one of my other play throughs, worry not. For I’ve been pondering the exact same thing.

It’s gotten to the point that I cannot even concentrate on other games, save it be the multiplayer fragfests that I so enjoy. The reason? I’m only 100 points away. The end of the line is there. I can taste it. But it’s more bitter than sweet.

Mass Effect is a great game. It’s not without it’s problems, but yes, a great game.  It’s those achievements that will taint my memories of this game. All that work for what? Bragging rights? Who am I going to brag to? Who really cares that I will have all the Mass Effect achievements?

Getting all those achievements was fun for about 70% of the time. Now it’s work. It’s officially my gaming equivilent to hot girl (I won’t name her, out of respect and junk). There’s greatness there… … tainted by the work that goes into “achievements.”

It’s official. Once I’m done with the  Mass Effect’s achievements, I’m never paying attention to achievements again… … … for one full week.
