Crysis Warhead

  Crysis was and still is one of the best games ever to be released onto the PC. The unique story plot, the amazing weapons and the breath taking graphics are just some of the things that made it so great, also the game was very addictive I can remember playing, finishing it and then wanting more was you have completed the game it just doesn’t seem to be enough. So people who have played it and finished would be happy to find out that producers Crytek have made a new one.  Crysis warhead is the second Crysis game of the trilogy and it lives up to the first Crysis that was released. Crysis warhead dose not only come with the disk for the game but it also comes with a separate disk that is used for online games only. Crysis Wars is the extra CD that you get and it installs separately and opens separately. You can think of it has a completely separate game and basically it is.

  Crysis had without a doubt made its graphic amazing realistic and people who have played it may have thought that ‘there is no way that they could make it any better, however that has not stopped them from trying and I am glad that they did because they have somehow made the graphic near photorealistic and everything down to the last detail looks amazing and the most impressive thing is that the requirements are all that different from the first Crysis. Crysis was well remembered for require hardware for the computer that not everybody had, and I was expecting more of the same from the new one but when i looked at the requirements there were near enough the same as the first one.

  You play as sergeant ‘Psycho’ Sykes hunting down Colonel Ji-Sung Lee, a ruthless political officer of the Korean Army, and his mysterious cargo. Compared to the first one you start from the end of the second mission where Nomad and Psycho split up after finding the hostage in the village filled with the KPA, and you end when you have captured the mysterious cargo and you are on your way to evacuate the island to the nearest ship.  Crytek has done a good job of mixing up the games and at certain points you will recognize some bits of the game that occurred in the first game.

  Crysis warhead uses Cryengine 2 similar to Crysis so the physics in both games are nearly the same. The games full of amazing opportunities to witness amazing explosions and flying bodies and then you would see all of the changes to the environment that are caused by one thing that you do. The best thing is when you throw a grenade in the jungle and then once it explodes and you see the leaves move and you see all of the tree break and fall and all kinds of debris being flung everywhere. Also when you hop in to some of the vehicles and drive it you would notice how the vehicles react to different things like a popped tyre and being flipped over.  

  There are two new enemies in the game, there is a green version of those mini squid call the shield generating drones however these do more than just shoot you with the frozen bullets of jump and attack you, these actually use a shield to protect the blue squid creatures and the only way to kill your enemies is to destroy the shielding creature first to attack the others, and there is a orange version to the larger blue scouts these are called the orange scouts, however these don’t drop the small squid thing but these drop small orange bombs that blow up once they get close to you. The AI that you go up against seems to be improved from the first one because now the AI does not just shoot randomly whenever it wants, all of your enemies would tend to shoot in the same direction that you are in. This does become annoying after a while though because when you are in cloak mode you would take more damage and it is easier to be killed. Also the AI now picks up on things more than before so if you walk and knock an oil drum the noise would alert all of your enemies to your whereabouts, however there are sometimes when you do make a noise and the AI do not seem to release. Another good thing that the improved AI has done is that if you get a headshot on your enemy then none of the others hear the shoot however they may hear the body hit the ground which is very clever and very useful. 

  The main weapons that you use are mainly similar your main gun is still the Scar assault rifle and you still get the pistol. Your enemy still use the same weapons as well such as, Sub machine gun, Shotgun, FY71, Precision rifle, Minigun, Rocket Launcher and the Gauss rifle. However there are some new weapons like the dual wielding AY69 which is basically a hand machine gun, there is also the FGL40 which is a grenade launcher that fires explosives or an EMP grenade. And don’t think that they left out the big explosive cannon in the first Crysis they had a mini nuclear warhead launcher, in Warhead they have a Plasma Accumulator Cannon (PAX) which is the biggest and best gun that you can have in your arsenal to fight all of the alien that have landed. There are also two new vehicles in the game that you can use on is a hovercraft that you use to cross the frozen rivers that have formed by the aliens and the other new vehicle is the Armored Scout Vehicles (ASV) this is my favourite new vehicle because as an onboard weapon it has a Minigun and because it is so armoured it is pretty much the best vehicle to use when you’re going straight in to combat.         

  The single player campaign is good however if falls on how long the game lasts. Overall there are 9 levels and to complete it can take nearly 6 hours to complete and that is nowhere near enough for a game like this. The game play has not really changed it looks the same and there is nothing new that in the game that makes it any better than the first Crysis, however you can tell that the Crytek team have gone over the game and have made little changes to the way you move and the way the environment moves in the game and it does make a slight difference. The best in the game that I like is the fact that the raptor team is not the only people to have the nanosuits, while you are playing the game you would run into another team that also has nanosuits and the team helps you move through a specific mission in the game and it does help.  

  There is no multiplayer tab in the actual game however it comes with an extra CD that actually contains the online game and you would have to install this separately from the game, the new online game is called Crysis Wars and although you may think of it has a completely new game it is actually just an improved version of the first Crysis online game. The new separate game has nothing to do with Crysis warhead and it does not have any missions to do with the ones that you go through in Crysis Warhead. However there are very good online objective that you have to do in large groups and because both sides use the nanosuits it makes online game play very close and therefore very hard.

  The game is very good and compared to the last one there are a lot of improvements that have been made, although there were not all that many changes that needed to be made, there are still some small issues however seeing the difference between this one and the first Crysis I am sure that the next Crysis would be near enough perfect, the game still hold true to the fact that it is the best first person shooter game that is available today.
