Technically the upcoming Australian gaming tv series Game Damage is not just Yahtzee‘s show as it also features Yug and Matt, two guys well known in the Aussie gaming community as they run AustralianGamer.com.  They can arguably be regarded as the ‘1up’ of Aussie gaming journalism as they go to all the trade shows we have down here and get to review pre-release builds of games and so forth while also having a large active community (by our standards anyway). They also do a podcast most weeks, when they’re not proving that we aussies are indeed all a bunch of lazy bums.

To get an idea of what this new show is going to be like they recently released a promotional trailer for season one.

Of course the tv airing is probably not of much interest to you non-aussie folk as the show wont be aired outside of Aus (as far as I know anyway) I’m just trying to spread the word as much as possible since I like these guys and they need all the support they can get, as does our industry.

Dont fret if you want to watch the show and aren’t a resident of kangaroo land  as it will be streamed on the net in some capacity.

Right now we only have one gaming dedicated tv series and its aired on mondays at a time when another highly popular show runs not to mention also on a channel most people don’t watch, so hopefully Yahtzee, Matt and Yug have managed to get a contract with one of the more popular networks down here and aren’t aired at some god awful hour or at least not on a monday.

I’m not just promoting their show for the hell of it, assuming they make it to a good network this will mark a turning point for gaming representation here in Aus.   We need this.

Between Michael Atkinson regularly ruining things for us with refused classification and the simple fact that almost no one on Aussie tv seems to mention games or gaming unless its in a mocking tone of some kind (because they’re all old and suck) things could be better and I think this show will help alot.

In regards to the ongoing battle between us; the aussie gamers and our oh so wonderful government we recently gained the support of a well respected individual down here by the name of Margaret Pomeranz who does weekly film reviews on one of our major networks.
She was very outspoken about the lack of an R18+ rating in the above linked video and how even films are still ‘banned’ to some extent here in aus.  Their is an R rating for film now but most of the movies go straight to DvD or have limited cinematic release.

Thats right one of Stanley Cubriks films; A Clockwork Orange was at one stage not allowed to be watched here. Our games ratings are pretty much stuck in that era still (that was what the 70s?)

Its a trying time for Australian gamers but at least things seem to be moving, somewhat.

Update: made some edits to some details, will update again when more info is released about the show.
