Every now and again I slip into only playing old games.  Well my heart practically skipped a beat when I heard that there is a new Bonk game coming soon.  When the details for A Boy and His Blob came out I practically did a dance.  There is a freaking HUG button.  A button devoted to hugging the blob.  GENIUS!

Firing up some games from my past made me wonder why no love for some of these classics.  We have about five or six ways to purchase Super Mario Bros.  Where is the love for Guardian Ledgend.  Here is a two part game.  First we have a game that like a basic Zelda clone, but with very varried environments, more weapons that are upgradeable and a great sound track.  Then you have one of the best casual SCHUMP games ever made.  Artistically there is a lot of material to work on for an update to this past marvel.

Next would have to be Medel Palace.  Here is a game where the combat seems to be based on one colloquialism, “Pull the rug out from under you.”.   The game might have had a story.  In all fairness I was never sure.  Mendel Palace had you eight 10 stage worlds with each one en-habited with one special enemy.  One drew on the floor, and made it so you could not use that tile, another skipped around.  (sounds silly but if he needs to be on the floor for you to kill him, then skipping makes you a horible thing.)  Then the last level had a mash up of everything.

Another on my list would be Metal Storm.  At first you think it is just a basic side scroller, and then you realize you can use your metal suit to effect your gravity.  It may have been a short game, but what a game.  It had so many puzzles and tough moments.

Last on what I guess has become a list would me Battle of Olympus.  This game told the myth about Orpheus and his love Eurydice.  The game play was umm…lovingly cribbed for the Zelda 2 side scolling bits, and made it more difficult.  It stuck very closely to the original myth.  Lovely graphics and an almost sadistic level of dificulty.

Let our space marines guns fall silent, let Mario return to plumbing, let Zelda and Link have a quit night at home, and for the love off all things Holy stop making me hate Sonic.  Give me some some other great games some time in the lime light.
