For the second time my PS3 is broken. Nothing happens when discs are put into the system,  to make it worse this is the exact same problem that I had last spring. I thought it was resolved when Sony’s repair center returned it, naturally with a $159.06 repair bill.

Of course by now both of my warranties are expired (I still have the original paperwork, for whatever it’s worth) and I really can’t see Sony being all that sympathetic

Is there any way that this problem could simply be resolved through the settings? I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t really know much about the hardware. Does anyone here on Bitmob have any suggestions? This is shaping up to be the worst day off from work ever.
