Last night I assumed my Internet was up to something.

I power cycled the router, rebooted the modem, and waited it out for a couple hours. For some reason my PS3 refused to let me sign on and enjoy a rousing game of MAG! I eventually did a connection test.

IP Address: Found

Internet Connection: Found

PSN Network: Sorry mate!

Oh! That's not so bad. I just assumed that the PSN network was down. A little bit of unscheduled repair  never hurt anyone, right? Instead I sat down with my girl and watched a few episodes of The Office: Season 5. After that was wrapped up I gave it another go…

"An error has occurred. You have been logged out of the Playstation Network. (RANDOM NUMBERS)"

Shit! This is taking an awfully long time. Maybe it IS just me.

So I trotted over to the PC and checked out a few forum posts and it turns out a lot of people are having the issue. Suddenly a post went up on Kotaku (I was getting desperate for information, all right?!) that showed my situation was not just a network problem, it was a worldwide pandemic! Every PS3 is not only unable to log on to the PSN, they can't play certain games because of some trophy conflict. All the system calendars have been set back to a time before the system was even created! It's absolute chaos, the online community is in shambles. The only people enjoying their PS3's are the ones who had bought the slims.

I had scoffed, I had laughed at the idea of Y2K; especially ten years after the year 2000. Suddenly it had hit me in a time and place I had not suspected — the focal point of my entertainment! Sure, it can still play Playstation one and two games okay, but many of my PS3 games have been compromised; as well as all the downloaded PSN games. I can't play Wipeout HD!

Is my PS3 done for? Should I give it a Viking burial and walk down to the store to purchase a Slim? No! There is hope. There is another Skywalker! The humans have been kicked off Pandora!  Dorothy was only dreaming! I checked out the network update feature, and it searched…

"You already have the latest update"

That means that the PS3's can still update. They can still distribute a firmware update despite the large majority of consoles being unable to log on. They can fix this. We just have to wait.

So we wait.

I guess I could finally go into my Xbox 360 backlog. I still haven't even played Perfect Dark Zero…

Do you see how desperate I am?!
