Although there are several contenders for best RPG on the Xbox 360, Fallout 3 is my personal favorite. It’s a game that seduces you from the beginning with its bleak atmosphere and then sucks you into its post-apocalyptic world and never lets you go. The game begins when you effortlessly creature your character, it then gets you up to speed on the story and how your character fits into it, and finally puts you into its huge open world where you can easily get killed unless you tread carefully.

Fallout 3 has its issues and is oftentimes buggy or otherwise unwieldy, but it always gives you the ultimate power to play the game as you see fit. It offers a flexible and believable world, one that is overly harsh but ultimately fair. And it tasks you with saving it. It will continually challenge you, and oftentimes overwhelm you, but it will never disappoint you.

Finally, Fallout 3 is backed with five pieces of incredibly well-crafted downloadable content. The developer, Bethesda Softworks, used its uncanny ability to entertain, amuse, and challenge by creating varied DLC, which ranges from some focused almost purely on combat to others that are more story driven. The DLC provides new locales, weapons, characters, and quests, and adds many additional hours to a game that you could play for hundreds even without it.
